The company's goal is to add 10,000 bidirectional EV school buses across the U.S. with 300 gigawatt hours of energy available to power grids each year. In effect, instead of the one-way charge into the vehicle, the school buses will be able to send their battery power back to the grid through Zum charging infrastructure. The roughly 500,000 school buses are mostly diesel, contributing to emissions. Ram Ambatipudi, senior vice president of business development at EV Connect, which provides EV charging solutions, said the school bus model is one of the most promising in the area of using EV battery storage in a bidirectional nature. "The low-hanging fruit from what I've seen is the school bus model," Ambatipudi said.

Honeywell shares are under pressure Thursday, despite the industrial conglomerate exceeding expectations for first-quarter sales and earnings. The culprits: Softer guidance for the current quarter and some uncertainty about a recovery in some of its key businesses. Honeywell Why we own it: Honeywell is a provider of industrial technology solutions to companies in various industries. Building automation was down year over year as growth in the longer-cycle solutions business was offset by continued weakness in the shorter-cycle products business. Yet according to Sam Altman, head of ChatGPT creator OpenAI, there is a clear solution to this tricky dilemma: nuclear fusion. Nuclear fusion — the process that powers the sun and other stars — is likely still decades away from being mastered and commercialized on Earth. Under the disclosure, public companies will have to release their greenhouse gas emissions, environmental risk impacts, and risk management strategies. Climate disclosure will create a standardized way for companies to report environmental impactPreviously, companies only disclosed their climate impact information on a voluntary basis. Bryan McGannon, managing director of the nonprofit sustainable investment forum US SIF, said the climate disclosure is "a really good first step" toward increasing transparency. The SEC might also be facing litigation from corporate America, which hopes to challenge the new climate disclosure in court, McGannon said. Some companies might be concerned about the potentially high costs of gathering data and complying with the disclosure, SEC officials said.

While earnings, profit margins, and cash flow came in slightly ahead of expectations, sales were light across the board. Segment margin , similar to an adjusted operating income margin, grew 64 basis points to 23.5%, slightly ahead of expectations and ahead of the high-end of management's previous forecast. Segment margin performance was largely better than expected, with the exception of Building Technologies, and cash flow generation came in solidly above expectations. Where they landed on guidance both in terms of sales and margin performance, and therefore earnings, hinges on the short-cycle recovery. Full-year segment margin guidance of 23.15% at the midpoint was higher than estimates.

Shaolei Ren, a researcher at the University of California, Riverside, published a study in April investigating the resources needed to run buzzy generative AI models, such as OpenAI's ChatGPT. Hundreds of millions of monthly users all submitting questions on the popular chatbot quickly illustrates just how "thirsty" AI models can be. The study's authors warned that if the growing water footprint of AI models is not sufficiently addressed, the issue could become a major roadblock to the socially responsible and sustainable use of AI in the future. For Google, meanwhile, total water consumption at its data centers and offices came in at 5.6 billion gallons in 2022, a 21% increase on the year before. watch nowIt's notable, however, that their latest water consumption figures were disclosed before the launch of their own respective ChatGPT competitors.

CNBC's Jim Cramer on Wednesday told investors which companies he thinks have distinguished themselves during earnings season. "The problem, as I see it, is that we haven't really pointed out which companies have really distinguished themselves this earnings season, because we've been so focused on the market's wild day-to-day gyrations," he said. "That stops right now, right here. The stock jumped a little over 12% by Wednesday's close, bolstered by an earnings report that showed strong organic revenue growth. "When long rates soar, nobody cares about the earnings I just mentioned," Cramer said.

LONDON, Sept 6 (Reuters) - As they endeavour to meet lofty sustainability goals, companies from Japan's Asahi (3333.T) to retailer John Lewis face challenges like confusion among suppliers, tough legislation, and friction with top management over costs, executives said. But the upfront cost of investments needed to curb emissions can cause friction within companies. WORKING TOGETHERWhile regulation plays a role in helping companies meet their goals, some feel it also acts as a constraint. Managing suppliers plays a major role in companies meeting sustainability goals but doing so can prove difficult. Some companies are going so far as to work with rivals to exchange best practices on issues such as decarbonising their value chains.

But Mahaffy's research found that it is not necessarily because companies have leaned away from socially conscious strategies. Instead, she pointed a growing use of the term "sustainability," as well as other words like "climate" or "decarbonization" that fall under the ESG umbrella. It comes at a time when ESG has become increasingly fraught in the political sphere. Mahaffry noted that areas like the U.S. where ESG has received the most scrutiny have seen the biggest drops in use of the term on earnings calls. On WestRock's earnings call earlier this month, Sewell told listeners: "This is just one example of many of how WestRock's unique capabilities position us for growth."

A new government projection says the U.S. climate bill will speed up cuts to greenhouse-gas emissions this decade, helping ease the burden on corporate climate targets but still falling short of Paris Agreement ambitions. The EIA considers only energy-related emissions, not the entire economy, and uses 2005 as the baseline because the Paris Agreement also targets that year. The EIA attributed most of the improvement to the 2022 climate bill known as the Inflation Reduction Act. It also remains to be seen if the rosier outlook will spur companies to raise their climate ambitions. “I’m not sure it will lead to more ambitious corporate climate targets, many of which are already targeting net-zero emissions—a goal that will require policy and technology adoption well beyond that included in EIA’s new projections,” Mr. Newell said.
At the same time global supply chains face disruption from all sides, including geo-political uncertainty, supply challenges, inflation, and disruptions from extreme weather. To meet this change, innovative retailers and manufacturers are bringing fresh ideas, new technology, and data analytics and AI into their supply chains. The global pandemic accelerated the investment to modernize supply chains which are now digitized at an unprecedented rate. Analyzing this across all three scopes of a supply chain is a sizable data-gathering and processing exercise. Another change impacting global supply chains is the climate, from port disruptions to the need to reroute cargoes.

She is set to join Autodesk, a design and manufacturing software business, as its chief marketing officer on Oct.14. Peloton is now seeking to hire its first ever chief marketing officer, a spokesman for the company said, following Ms. Treseder’s resignation, which was first reported by the New York Times. Peloton doesn’t plan to refill the commercial chief position, a move that, coupled with the CMO headhunt, signifies Mr. McCarthy’s vision to rewrite Peloton’s C-suite roles. Business leaders have a platform readily available to support their own organizations' climate transformation efforts, engage their employees in meaningful action, and help further external organizations' steps to fight climate change. So how can CxOs become climate changemakers and help tip the scales in favor of our planet's life span? And with CxOs reporting feeling increased pressure from these stakeholder groups around climate action, transparency on measuring progress and meeting goals are even more crucial. However, CxOs should find a compelling way to communicate these less obvious but highly effective sustainability actions. Clear, authentic, and frequent communication — backed up by real commitment and progress — is central to all four steps in becoming a climate changemaker.
